Investment Insurance Claims

Significant claims are paid by Berne Union investment insurance members. There are currently 32 members, both public agencies and private companies.

Investment insurance – also referred to as political risk insurance (PRI) – covers foreign direct investments or loans in support of investments against risks such as

  • Transfer: restrictions on transferability and/or convertibility of local currency
  • Political Violence: war and civil disturbance, terrorism
  • Expropriation: confiscation, expropriation, nationalisation
  • Breach of Contract: contract frustration, non-honouring of government obligations
